Small satellite space chamber can simulate high vacuum, solar radiation, cryogenic background of space and it is possible to evaluate the thermal design and verify the environmental durability of the spacecraft.
A cryogenic pump using 20K gaseous helium is used to simulate a high vacuum environment in this facility. The chamber has a black shroud where liquid nitrogen circulates along the surface to simulate a cold and dark environment. IR lamps are used to simulate solar radiation. The temperature of the specimen base plate can be varied by using liquid nitrogen and heaters.
